FAIRFAX, VA. January 13, 2009 - "Check the 'bailout' plan for new home energy tax credits. It could mean hundreds of dollars for you in 2009." This announcement was made today by Kevin Shiner, president of Shiner Roofing, Siding and Windows (ShinerRoofing.com).

The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA), also known as the Wall Street 'bailout' plan, allows homeowners that have metal and asphalt shingle roofs installed in 2009 that meet ENERGY STAR requirements, to apply for a tax credit of up to $500.

"Qualifying products include metal roofs with certain pigmented coatings as well as asphalt shingle roofs with cooling granules," stated Shiner. "Check with a qualified installer to see if your new roof qualifies. Qualifying products will always have the ENERGY STAR seal." As a result of the EESA, tax incentives which were originally part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, were extended through the end of 2009. In addition, tax incentives previously available exclusively to cool residential metal roofing have now been extended to cool granulated asphalt shingle roofing. Also hidden within the massive bailout plan is a 30% tax credit on the purchase of solar energy systems.

"Homeowners who have recently had qualifying products installed, or will within the coming year, should keep track of their paperwork including product information and warrantees, as well as receipts for their purchase and installation," advises Shiner. "At tax time, have this information ready and advise your tax preparer that you would like to apply for these credits."
