FAIRFAX, VA. December 9, 2009 -
Shiner Roofing, Siding and Windows (ShinerRoofing.com)
announced today the release of its Home Winterization Checklist for
homeowners concerned about weather predictions for early winter 2009.
Due to weak El Nino conditions, forecasters are predicting cold and
snowy weather on the Eastern seaboard. Some say that it could be the
coldest winter of the decade. Even the popular Farmer's Almanac (farmersalmanac.com)
predicts cold spells, rapidly changing temperatures and precipitation
including heavy rain and wet snow during the months of December and
January in the northeast.
"Our customers are starting to express concerns that this year's winter
will take its toll on their home and their energy costs in particular,"
stated Kevin Shiner, CEO of Shiner Roofing, Siding and Windows. "We
developed the Home Winterization Checklist to help alleviate those
concerns, protect the investment they've made in their home, and provide
energy savings."
Homeowners are encouraged to follow the steps included on the checklist
now to prepare their home for whatever winter may bring. Tips offered
include simple preventative measures such as keeping gutters free of
leaks and debris, roof inspections and sealing cracks and gaps around
windows and doors. Other tips include larger, more proactive steps such
as having single-pane windows replaced with double- or triple-pane
windows, adding attic insulation and more.
The complete checklist is available at no charge on Shiner's website at
ShinerRoofing.com/Checklist.
